Steven Bukowski is a furniture and product designer based in New York City. His work explores the materiality of the design process through the interaction of craft and industry, exploring a relationship between the techniques of traditional handcrafting and technology-driven manufacturing. Each piece incorporates subtle spatial details, inviting the viewer into the work for further observation.
Steven founded his Brooklyn-based design practice in 2016. In that same year he designed the bar seating for the renown Flora Bar, located within the Met Breuer building. In 2017 he participated in the annual Sight Unseen OFFSITE exhibition and was named a recipient of the American Design Hot List Award. His work has been published in Domino Magazine, Architectural Digest, Wallpaper, and W Magazine to name a few.
Steven draws inspiration from a long family history of engineering, fabrication, and craft. From the welding he learned from his grandfather to the meticulous sewing and quilting crafts created by his grandmother, Steven finds beauty in the process of making useful and aesthetic objects.
